    Carole, what you bought is exactly what you needed. It is marketed as a drill or reamer 'blank', and is M2 HSS, fully hardened and centerless ground to close tolerances. Don't feel bad because you were confused. You don't have a background in tooling. The suggestion to use the shank of a drill is questionable in my opinion.
